Day 32 --- The Short O Sound vs. The Short U Sound

         
   
  Objective: Distinguishing between the short O sound and the short U sound
  1. Unselect the Display Tips check box in the Help window.
  2. Right click on the short O list box and select Group All the Words.
  3. Right click on the short U list box and select Group All the Words.
  4. Go through the words in either the short O or the short U list box. (You can just type the word as I typed the word hot.)
  5. Go through the words in the short O list box.
  6. In this example, when you click on the word hot, the program will automatically select the word hat.
  7. You can press 1, 2, or 3 to play the word hot, hut, or heart respectively. You can press the space bar to play the short O sound or the short U sound depending which list box is selected.

  1. In this example, when you click on the word knot, the program will automatically select the word nut.
  2. You can press 1, 2, or 3 to play the word knot, nut, or gnat respectively. You can press the space bar to play the short O sound or the short U sound depending which list box is selected.

Click on the speaker icon to test your listening.

Use the lists of words to help you distinguish the differences between the short O sound and the short U sound.
